If you’re looking for a last hurrah in the mountains before ski season starts, October is your last chance to fit it in! Explore the top six things to do in Breckenridge this October.

1. Enjoy The Views

October is a great time to take in the last of autumn’s golden aspen leaves as well as snowy mountain tops!  If you plan on taking in the views while on a hike, you’re in luck!  There are hundreds of miles of trails in and near Breckenridge, so whether you’ve done your fair share of hiking or you’re new to the activity, you’re sure to find a hiking trail that will meet your needs.  Trail accessibility will vary depending on weather and snowfall so be sure to check-out trail conditions before you go.  Wondering where to hike? Here are our favorite easymoderate and difficult hiking trails throughout Breckenridge

2. Hit The Trails

It’s no secret, fall rides are some of our favorite rides!  The cooler weather means you won’t heat up going uphill, the number of people on the trails decreases and the views are hard to beat.  Not into mountain biking? You can pedal around town or take a tour of the county on our bike path. If you are looking for a bike ride with a twist, try out the distillery and spirits bike tour  or sample a few brews on a fat bike brewery tour.

3. Give Casting a Shot

There is great fly fishing available year-round in Breckenridge but the trick is knowing where to go!  Sign-up for a full or half-day guided tour to get geared up, transported and taught the secrets to casting and catching by a local expert.  Guided tours are available for those who are new to the sport, new to the area or those who are just looking for a good time!

4. Get Into The Halloween Spirit

Take a late evening stroll through Breckenridge’s haunted historic district and learn about its dark past!  Breckenridge is the home of multiple haunted ghost tours, cemetery walk-throughs, paranormal investigations and historic tours that’ll give you goosebumps and get you in the mood for Halloween!

5. Taste Your Way Through The Afternoon

Did you know Breckenridge is home to the highest winery and the highest distillery in North America?  Or that it has a hometown brewery that boasts the title of Best Brewery in Colorado?  Drink local and head out to one of these libation stations for a behind the scenes tour, tasting, blending class, flight, or afternoon delight!  If you love Breckenridge’s tasty concoctions, don’t miss the Breckenridge Craft Spirit Festival (Oct. 20-22).   The event features small-batch distillers, artisan spirit seminars, a spirited cooking class, scavenger hunt, fine local cuisine and of course, plenty of sampling. Meet the distillers and taste the creations of 38 distillers Saturday night at the Still on the Hill Grand Tasting!
