Independence Day 10K Trail Run – Saturday, July 4

Here’s an opportunity to work for that barbecue and beer. Pound the pavement in the Independence Day 10K Trail Run in the morning on the 4th of July and then enjoy the parade, festivities, and fireworks later that day. Register early. The 350 spots fill up quickly; it’s usually sold out by mid-June. Many runners get in the spirit by dressing in red, white, and blue or other patriotic costumes.

Firecracker 50 – Saturday, July 4
Leave it to Breck to turn its 4th of July parade into a competition and not just any competition, a 50-mile hard-core mountain bike race. Hundreds of spandex-clad mountain bikers kick off the town’s 4th of July parade with a race down Main Street and then proceed to climb 4,000 feet for two lung-busting laps of 25 miles each. That’s a total of 50 real-deal, full-on mountain biking miles.

Breck Epic – Aug. 14-19
This race truly deserves its name. It is EPIC. If you’re a mountain biker, a hard-core, I-like-to-hurt-myself mountain biker, the Breck Epic is on your wish list. With six BIG backcountry loops (or three loops for the 3-day Epic-curious events), each between 35 and 50 miles long, this is not for the casual or beginner mountain biker. At all. Don’t even think about it. Each loop starts and finishes within a mile from downtown Breckenridge and utilizes the sprawling network of trails in both Summit and Park Counties.
