The first race kicks off on June 8.. All races are BYOB – bring your own bottle, water bottle that is. The race series is “cup-free,” without aid stations. Races are open to runners of all abilities ages 10 and older. However, like any race worth its salt, there is an after party.

Independence Day 10K Trail Run – Saturday, July 4
Breckenridge Recreation Center

Here’s an opportunity to work for that barbecue and beer. Pound the pavement in the Independence Day 10K Trail Run in the morning on the 4th of July and then enjoy the parade, festivities, and fireworks later that day. Register early. The 350 spots fill up quickly; it’s usually sold out by mid-June. Many runners get in the spirit by dressing in red, white, and blue or other patriotic costumes.

The Breck Crest – Saturday, Aug. 27
Riverwalk Center

Race up the mountain you ski down and see every day. The Breck Crest 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon routes consist of mountain trails, with road stretches running through Breck. Run and see some of the best views Breck has to offer; the latter part of the race contains a stretch called “Skiway Skyway.” This classic end-of-summer event gives trail runners a chance to conquer Breckenridge on and off the snow.

Firecracker 50 – Saturday, July 4

Leave it to Breck to turn its 4th of July parade into a competition and not just any competition, a 50-mile hard-core mountain bike race. Hundreds of spandex-clad mountain bikers kick off the town’s 4th of July parade with a race down Main Street and then proceed to climb 4,000 feet for two lung-busting laps of 25 miles each. That’s a total of 50 real-deal, full-on mountain biking miles.

Breck Epic – Aug. 14-19

This race truly deserves its name. It is EPIC. If you’re a mountain biker, a hard-core, I-like-to-hurt-myself mountain biker, the Breck Epic is on your wish list. With six BIG backcountry loops (or three loops for the 3-day Epic-curious events), each between 35 and 50 miles long, this is not for the casual or beginner mountain biker. At all. Don’t even think about it. Each loop starts and finishes within a mile from downtown Breckenridge and utilizes the sprawling network of trails in both Summit and Park Counties.

The enormously popular Spartan Race is descending on Breck in August this year. Choose between three course lengths: Kids, Sprint (3+ miles) and for the truly dedicated, Beast (12+ miles). Each course is laden with obstacles, water, and mud. You’ll finish looking, and feeling, like a badass. Even kids can be Spartans, in the Spartan Kids race.
