A new discovery to make taking the dog on a walk much easier and safer. The TugNTow is a high strength line recoil and it can hold up to 2,000 lbs and can use any type of rope so it has many applications.
For bike/scooter-joring, Snow Caps Sled Dogs in Breckenridge offer a mushing package that has a line set up for dogs who are trained to pull. For people who want to use a bike to get their dog some good exercise they offer a bike leash configuration. This is a leash with a strong recoil that can be attached to the head tube of your bike or the upright under the bike seat. It allows the rider to have their dog on a leash while riding their bike and never be worried about the line being caught in the tire. They get to keep both hands on the bike and they get to give their dog great exercise.
Orion Paiement, owner of Snow Caps Sled Dogs and founder of the TugNTow, first came up with the idea when he fell in love with Scooter-joring. He first tried running dogs on a scooter in 2008 and loved it. He says it is still his favorite thing to do today. Orion wanted to bring the activity to their summer guest, so he bought four scooters and invited friends to try it out. Learning to be pulled by dogs was easy to grasp on a scooter but found that his friends would forget to watch their lines in front and the line would get caught in the tire, it was downhill from there.
Orion started to look for solutions and realized what he needed was a recoil system for the line. There was nothing on the market, so he made his first prototype from seat-belt mechanisms that he pulled from old cars at the junk yard. Snow Caps was the first dog sled operation to offer scooter-joring as an activity to the public. This gave the dogs plenty of exercise through the summer seasons, gearing them up for the winter dog sled season.
The original prototypes are what allowed this and now, the TugNTow is made of high strength poly-carbonate plastic (the same material football helmets are made of) and is ready for the market.
