With summer nearly behind us and the fall season getting underway, families are looking to get back into the school grind while seeking out classes and opportunities to learn something new together. Luckily, there are always fun and educational things to do in and around Breckenridge that don’t require a commitment. Here is quick roundup of drop-in classes and places that you can have some family fun and develop new skills at the same time:
Kids Making Music
Music Together- Music on the Mountains offers drop-in classes for families at their Breckenridge location at St. John Episcopal Church. This early childhood music and movement center is perfect for children 0-5 years old and the adults who love them. The cost is $20 per family. Glaze Your Own Pottery
Ready Paint Fire offers open studio hours every day, when kids and their parents can drop in any time between 11 am and 7 pm. Bring the whole family and have fun painting on ceramics or canvas. Or, build a stained glass mosaic. The kiln will be fired every evening, so pottery pieces can be picked up the next day. Keep an eye on their events calendar for specialty classes and canvas painting parties. Ready Paint Fire is located at 323 N Main Street.
Mountain Top Children’s Museum is a great place to bring the family for creative indoor play. It is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 am to 4:30 pm. With exhibits like the bear cave, kidstruction zone and wonder lab & planetarium, children can let their imaginations run wild. The cost is $7 per child and $5 per adult (children under age 1 and grandparents are free). The museum is located at 605 South Park Avenue.
The Summit County Library South Branch in Breckenridge is always a great place to swing by and spend some time reading. Hours and storytimes change from season to season, so be sure to check the website for details. The Breckenridge branch is located beside the Justice Center at 504 Airport Road.
Putt & Play Junction
Each summer near the ice rink, Putt & Play Junction offers mini golf, bounce houses, basketball hoops and more. At just $7 per person or $22 for a family of four (same-day re-entry allowed), it’s an affordable outdoor play space that keeps kids busy. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on site.
In fall and winter, check out Family Gym Time at the Breckenridge Recreation Center – there’s tons of fun to be had for children up to age 5, who can jump on the inflatable jungle, run around on the gym mats and use the play equipment.
