One of the best parts about coming to Breckenridge for the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships is not only watching the action live, but also meeting and talking to the athletes themselves. Such was the case this morning, when I simply got on the gondola at Breckenridge Ski Resort with two other passengers, a cute-as-can-be young lady and her father. After a couple of minutes, I found out she was none other than US Snowboarder, Chloe Kim, the 13 year-old who yesterday finished 2nd to Kelly Clark, to qualify for the finals this Saturday. Amazing!
Even more amazing is that while the Dew Tour is an Olympic qualifying event, Chloe isn’t focused on qualifying for the Olympics. This is because even if she should win the Dew Tour final this Saturday, Chloe is too young to be allowed to compete at the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. With a 2nd place finish yesterday, and two days before she competes again, what was Chloe doing this morning at 8:30am? Riding the gondola up to the mountain for some more practice runs, of course! And her enthusiasm, energy and personality was contagious. She is simply delightful and this is an athlete that we will all be watching for years to come. Check out what she had to say in this video, and then come check her out yourself when she competes Saturday in the finals. You don’t want to miss this. Go, Chloe, Go!
You can still get in on all the action and watch the Breckenridge Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships live this weekend. Current information, including schedules, hotel information, and activities is posted here. And make sure to check out NBC’s coverage that includes live streaming.
