[UPDATE] This photo gallery is from the 2013 Breck Epic event. Enjoy 2014, going on now!
To quote the Breck Epic Bike Race website: “The Breck Epic. Back to the beginning. When mountain biking was about big rides with friends.” It’s a six-day stage race with big backcountry loops that cloverleaf to start and finish within a mile of downtown Breckenridge, using the “sprawling trail networks” in both Summit and Park Counties. Here’s ten beautiful photos from photographer Daniel Dunn. Enjoy!
Macky Franklin came to compete for the win. He had to settle for 4th place. Looking ultra strong here climbing Wheeler, way above Breckenridge.
The Breck Epic has turned into an international affair, with over 10 countries represented. Racers from Belgium are happy to be finished and looking forward to a cold beer.
Suffering from the altitude and effort given, racers were on the limit above treeline, only to descend a gnarly trail dropping towards Copper Mt. resort.
The pain came from the mileage and elevation gained and lost, but always mixed with a smile as the stage neared it’s end.
Ten Mile Range in the background, some racers come to enjoy the incredible singletrack on each and every stage, not necessarily fighting for the win.
Racers descending Little French trail with Mt. Baldy providing the gorgeous backdrop.
Descending the infamous Little French flume, which is usually ridden in the opposite direction, racer Ben Truitt crossed French Creek in early morning light.
In what would turn out to be a daily battle, Alex Grant leads Todd Wells on a climb of V3 trail. These two would swap leads every stage.
Riders roll out on Day 1 of the annual Breck Epic mt bike stage race. 6 stages long, Sunday-Friday. 2013 was the first year the race was sold out.
