Today’s snowboard pipe events at the Breckenridge Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships kept the excitement building. The depth and strength of the men’s competition field kept everyone guessing as to who would eventually wind up on the podium. In the men’s event, Greg Bretz threw it down and overtook Shaun White for first place and the podium win. Taylor Gold kept the momentum going by nudging Louie Vito out of third place, with Australian Scotty James finishing fifth.
The same was true in the women’s event. With a variety of Olympians and X Games medalists in the field of eight, including two Olympic gold and one Olympic silver medalist, the competition for a spot on the podium was intense. So finding 2010 Olympic gold medalist Torah Bright in first, with 2002 Olympic gold medalist Kelly Clark in second might not be surprising. But finding a 13 year-old first time Dew Tour competitor in 3rd place on the podium? What’s the story here? People were asking: Chloe who?
Chloe Kim, that’s who. That bubbly kid with all the energy and personality that was heading up the gondola the day after her qualifying round, to get in more practice time. That extra practice must have helped, as she rocked it. And then she proceeded to handle all the hype and media blitz with grace, poise and confidence. Check out what she had to say about her podium finish alongside two Olympic gold medalists in this short video.
