[UPDATED 11/11/2014] – Breckenridge Announces its Friday, Nov. 14 opening day.

The new Colorado SuperChair will start turning at 9 a.m., but guests are invited to get to Peak 8 early — the first several hundred guests will receive free treats, including handmade donuts from the Ski Hill Grill, Nature Valley Soft Baked Oatmeal Squares and other prizes. EpicMix Photo will also be on site with free prints from their EpicMix Photo booth.

DJ DC will be spinning tunes from Red Bull’s specially made MXT DJ truck and there will be a special ribbon cutting of the newly upgraded Colorado SuperChair, now a six-passenger express, providing a 30 percent increase in capacity for Peak 8’s primary and most utilized lift.

Additional festivities will include a special tribute to honor United States service men and women in honor of this week’s Veterans Day, as well as local ski legend CJ Mueller, who recently was elected to the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame.

The original opening day scheduled for Friday, Nov. 7 was delayed due to warm weather and a desire to provide the best experience for guests as they open for the season. Expected opening day announcement will be made “early next week,” which is the week of Monday, November 10.

Wake Up Breck! (details below) is still happening on November 6th as scheduled.

“While we have been very optimistic about snowmaking efforts for Friday, warmer temperatures this week have slowed our efforts. As with all our resorts, our top priority is to provide our guests with a superior early season product,” said Breckenridge Vice President of Mountain Operations, Gary Shimanowitz. “Breck has one of the longest ski seasons in the country, and we want to make sure the experience is fun and safe from the start.”

Get Ready! Breckenridge Ski Resort is opening for the 52nd season. Last year, Spring Fever wrapped up the season with extended skiing and riding days, and big powder. This year, locals are excited to sample the newest addition to Breckenridge’s world-class amenities – a brand-new, larger, and faster Colorado Superchair at the base of Peak 8.

The new Colorado Superchair will be open for you to sample on opening day . With seating for six on each chair, an organizing conveyor and gates to keep everyone together, the new chairlift will speed things up at the base of Peak 8 by about 30%. It’s sure to keep lines shorter, and give you more skiing and riding time on the slopes.

The Colorado SuperChair was first installed in 1986 as a high-speed quad, updated in 2002 from a chain drive system to a gear drive system and then again in 2012 with new chairs. Those quad chairs will be used for upgrades to Beaver Run SuperChair, located on Peak 9.
